Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

In our district, we use the Treasures reading series.  For the story Dot and Jabber and the Big Bug Mystery, we do a mini-study of insects.  We chose to learn about butterflies, dragonflies, and ants.  We created charts to organize our learning (thanks, Mrs. Jump for the idea):

My daughter did all of the artwork for me!  We then compared and contrasted the insects.  After the lesson, I created this Venn and sorting cards.  I thought it would be fun next year for the kids to sort facts about each insect.  You can download the venn and sorting cards here:
I hope you can use these! Let me know what you think!

  1. Wonderful - thank you! We also use "Treasures," so I'll look forward to having your great Venn and sort for next year when "Dot and Jabber" comes up again. :)

  2. Great lesson. I'll add a link from
We're just starting to teach Treasures in the fall and completing training now.

  3. If any of you have SMARTboards, let me know. We have created daily lessons for each week in Treasures that include the morning messages, worksheets, videos, activities, etc. Send me your email and I'll send them to you!

  4. @Kristy,

I can't find a contact button on your blog and I don't like to post my e-mail address publicly. However, we do use SMARTBoards. Would you like to share your resources on my site? I give you credit and link back to your blog. You can contact me by clicking on contact from my site.
